Background
The Fisherman and the Turtle was the second show produced by Common Ground and it’s first venture into smaller-scale touring productions. As with Gallows Song, it was written by Pat Whymark and Julian Harries, the Company’s Directors and founders.
Synopsis
Takeo finds the body of a young woman in the river. It isn’t the first body he’s seen, but it’s the first one to whom he’s given a name.
The Fisherman and the Turtle is the story of a young man’s journey to spiritual and emotional salvation, in the aftermath of WW2, based partly on real events and personal experiences and told through music and poetry and intertwined with the powerful Japanese folk tale of Urashima Taro.
